What is the Apollo System?

The Apollo REVISE™ and Apollo REVISE Sx™ Systems are FDA-authorized medical devices intended for revising a previous bariatric surgery to facilitate weight loss through Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe). They are the first and only devices authorized by the FDA for TORe.

What is Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe)?

Patients who have previously undergone Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery may experience dilation of the gastrojejunostomy outlet and the gastric pouch, followed by weight gain. Studies have shown that after ten years, patients who underwent gastric bypass regain an average of 20-30% of the weight they lost. TORe is a procedure performed endoscopically by a gastroenterologist or surgeon that uses a small suturing device and camera to revise a prior gastric bypass from the inside to help the patient lose weight again.

How is TORe different from traditional surgery?

TORe is performed endoscopically, meaning there are no incisions or scars, and most patients can go home the same day.

How much weight do patients lose after TORe?

Clinical literature suggests an average of 15-25% total body weight loss at 6 months.

Who is a candidate for TORe?

Apollo REVISE is indicated for adult patients with obesity with a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 30-50 kg/m² who have had prior gastric bypass but are now regaining weight.

Who should not have TORe?

Contraindications to Apollo REVISE include the inability to have an endoscopic procedure, malignant tissue, large hiatal hernia, potential bleeding gastric lesions, eating disorders, women who are pregnant, and certain types of blood-thinning medications.

What are the most common risks?

The most common risks are bleeding (associated with the use of plasma coagulation) and stricture of the outlet, which can be addressed endoscopically by a doctor. All procedures have risks.
